A Different Kind of Madonna
Madonna, a highly talented artist, is a Diva that we all know. I wanted to see her again, especially in such an intimate venue. We all knew she wouldn't come on right away. But long after the tickets were purchased, we found out the show wasn't going to start until 10:30. I bought tickets for the show with a start time of 8:30. So, I guess what she says goes. I wasn't happy about that with having to work the next day, but hey, it's Madonna.
The show didn't start until after 11:00, turns out. After purchasing tickets, we found out we wouldn't have access to our phones during the show. I get the idea of keeping us from flashing pictures and staring at our phones, but it also deprived us of any way to keep track of time or notify people of how late we were running. My driver ended up waiting outside the theater for more than an hour.
The show itself was a good production with very strong political overtones. I've been a Madonna fan for years and have seen her a handful of times during the last 30 years. I know that she changes it up for each tour, and this one was very different from any of the others I'd been to. I didn't mind, but if someone was hoping to hear much of her old material, they were out of luck. This show was more of a theatrical production than a concert.
I'll give the experience three stars overall. I know Madonna doesn't care what I or anyone else thinks of her and how she runs her shows. But for me, this was the last time I'll spend the effort or the money to go to see her.
